GUITARS & GEAR

This is the page that worries my wife (Suzanne). I love acoustic guitars, lots of 'em - you can never have enough. Some of the guitars I have owned are featured here. As well as these I have had a number of Martins, Nationals, de Gruchys and Dobros - even a Maton 12 String.

If you would like help purchasing a professional standard acoustic guitar, I'd be happy to help (see contact page).

A fine (early) collection here. I no longer have any of these. (L- R)

1976 Martin HD28; great rhythm guitar.

1971 Martin D12-20 (12 string).

1935 Martin D18; wonderful instrument- was too fragile  for the rigors of the road.

1930s National  Style N with one-of-a-kind globe and dragons engraving.

  2006 National Style O

This is my main Open G instrument for Bottleneck playing. It is set up with a high action and has a Highlander pickup installed. Great instrument - I love it, and nothing looks more like classic Blues than this little baby.

  2003(?) National RadioTone Bendaway

This is my Open E instrument for Bottleneck playing. It is also set up with a high action and has a Highlander pickup installed. This is my favoutite instrument for slide. They don't make this model anymore - more's the pitty. The wood body has a slightly softer sound than the metal bodies and it is just about right by my thinking. The neck is so fat that I can't fret a standard G chord, but when that bottleneck is on the finger it works a treat.

2006 Martin OOO17S

My main standard tuning (wooden) guitar. A nice little 12 fret guitar for playing the blues. It has a Baggs I-Beam (active) fitted as do all my Martins. They give out a nice acoustic sound.

    OTHERS

My other guitars are:

1971 Martin D12-20 Twelve String. A 12 fret dreadnaught that is LOUD. Great for playing Leadbelly-type boogie woogie bass line stuff.

2008 Martin D18 Golden Era 1939 Custom.. Just a great bluegrass guitar and probably the best dreadnaught I've played. I custom ordered it through My Favourite Guitars in Florida with a smaller neck to fit my small hand.

1996 Martin D18VS. A lovely guitar that has been my main workhouse until recently. A 12 fret dreadnaught with a huge warm sound.

2007 Nobro Duolian resophonic. A Chinese resonator that has got a great old duolian sound Awful neck but I love the sound it gives.

1996(?) National Resolectric. Very nice electric for playing Open G in. Has a P90 neck pickup and a Highlander in the cone for a great variety of sounds.

1963 National Westwood. A wooden bodied electric famous for the USA map shape. I use it for Open E slide. The National neck pickup is the best, fattest, creamy-ist, sound you'll ever hear. Shame that the bridge pickup is rubbish.
